What we do:
- Keep up-to-date records of your details, including information about clerks and councillors
- Ensure that Councillors' registers of interests are published on our website, promoting transparency and accountability.
- When a Parish or Town Council becomes inquorate, we coordinate and support the temporary appointment process
- Coordinator the process of conducting Community Governance Reviews, which involve changes to Parish governance arrangements
- Ensure that standards training on registering interests and the code of conduct is provided, ensuring that your Parish Council operates effectively
These efforts help ensure that you are well-supported and can effectively serve your Parish.
A Quick Reminder
- North Yorkshire Council is the Principal Authority for Parish and Town Councils in North Yorkshire for the purposes of the standards provisions in the Localism Act 2011
- It is responsible for receiving and handling complaints that a Parish/Town Councillor may have breached that authority’s code of conduct for Members
- That is the extent of North Yorkshire Council’s jurisdiction in respect of Parish/Town Council governance
- Parish/Town Councils are separate legal entities and North Yorkshire Council has no jurisdiction to consider other complaints, for example about the way in which the Parish/Town Council has or has not done something, or about particular decisions or employees

The Forward Plan
The Forward Plan is published weekly and is a list of the council’s key decisions that will be made over the next one to four months. These decisions will be made by either the Executive or by officers who have been delegated authority by the Executive.
The plan includes a short description of each decision to be made including who will make it; when the decision will be taken; details of the planned consultation with local people and other stakeholders and contact details for further information (including reports and background papers).
