Localities

North Yorkshire Council works alongside local voluntary and community groups to improve the quality of live for our residents and as a Parish Clerk you can access support, information and advice from the Localities Team

 

Our Localities Service delivers locality-based support across the county, working with communities at a local level to improve wellbeing and community resilience.

 

Localities Structure

The Localities Team comprises:

  • The Communities Team
  • The Parish Liaison, Devolution and Community Rights Team
  • The Migrant Programmes Team

Communities Team

The Communities Team is broadly structured around the six parliamentary constituency areas, with dedicated team members in each place.  Their work includes supporting the development of the Community Partnerships, which are place based and comprised of key local organisations, responding to local needs and opportunities. These partnerships continue to evolve. 

  

Parish Liaison, Devolution and Community Rights Team (PLDCR)

We work closely with the Parish Sector to ensure effective communication and collaboration. We are also responsible for supporting the devolution of our assets and services to Town and Parish Councils and other eligible community groups.

The purpose of the team is to provide a single point of contact for any day-to-day enquiries from Parish Clerks and to improve the relationship between the Parish Sector and North Yorkshire Council. The PLDCR Team:

  • Co-developed The Parish Charter with the Parish Sector which was adopted in July 2023 and is reviewed and updated annually
  • Facilitate drop-in surgeries and meetings across the county based on NYC Area Committee areas
  • Publish Monthly Parish Updates which are circulated to all PSO’s on the last Wednesday of the month
  • Hold consultations with members of the Parish Panel which is made up of 62 representatives of Parish Councils across the county
  • Host Virtual Drop-in Surgeries, held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month (am) and on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (pm). Appointments are bookable via parishliaison@northyorks.gov.uk
  • Promote and support local devolution opportunities and provide information, advice and guidance to those eligible organisation wishing to explore devolution further

Migrant Programme Team

Our Migrant Programme Team is dedicated to supporting asylum seekers and migrants across the county. The team offer a range of services, including advice and support for migrants, as well as outreach sessions to provide guidance on various issues such as eVisas, benefits, energy, housing, and more. The team works closely with other support organisations and local communities to ensure migrants feel safe, valued, and hopeful about their future. They also provide free, confidential, and impartial advice to clients with a connection to the migrant community.
