You can play a key role in maintaining services related to waste, the environment, and street scene in North Yorkshire
Waste Management
We are usually responsible for waste collection and disposal, including recycling, household waste, and bulky item collection.
As a Parish Council, you can:
- Report missed collections or fly-tipping
- Organise community litter picks or clean-up events
- Provide additional litter bins or dog waste bins (often funded by the Parish)
- Liaise with the us to report and address any local concerns or litter hotspots

Fly Tipping
You can play a crucial role in managing and preventing fly-tipping in your Parish. You can help us engage with residents to raise awareness of the impacts of fly-tipping and encourage proper waste disposal which may be able to reduce fly tipping in your area. Alongside the Environment Agency, we can work together to address fly-tipping incidents and enforce regulations.
You can report incidents of fly tipping and find out more information by clicking the button below.
Public Bins
You can play a vital role in the management and provision of public bins within your Parish.
You have the authority to allocate funds for the provision and maintenance of public bins. This includes purchasing bins and covering the costs associated with their installation and upkeep. You can decide on the number, types and sizes of bins needed in your area.
Working together we can help coordinate waste management efforts and address any issues related to public bins. You can help ensure that bins are emptied regularly and kept in good condition.

Community Litter Picking
We are happy to support you and any local community groups that are keen to help improve the quality of their local area.
We are able to lend you equipment including Hi-Viz vests, litter pickers and bags for organised litter picking events. We are also able to collect bags of litter once full. Bags can be left at prearranged locations, which are deemed safe for our operatives to collect from.
To arrange the collection and return of equipment, as well as the collection point for filled bags, please by clicking this button.
We can only offer removal of bagged litter that has been collected from public land. We cannot remove waste that was collected from private land.
We ask that individuals who collect small quantities of litter locally take the bags home and put them in their own bins. Please don’t leave bags next to litter bins unless this has been prearranged as this often attracts fly tipping.
Information about voluntary litter picking can be found below and we strongly advise that this is read and understood by those taking part.

- Maintain small green spaces, village greens, or allotments
- Plant and maintain flower beds, trees, or hedgerows
- Support biodiversity projects or local conservation efforts
- Act as a local voice in planning applications and environmental impact assessments
